If you’ve ever wondered why people in Hawai'i hate tourists, try to wrap your mind around the fact that there are CURRENTLY, RIGHT NOW, tourists sipping martinis and looking at fish within swimming range of the fresh corpses of local people who couldn’t escape the overnight destruction of their entire town.

Try to comprehend that there are fully functional, high capacity boats passing through the waters in front of an area full of survivors who are stranded and in need of supplies, refusing to help. They are hosting snorkeling tours.

Really think about, try your best to actually picture over two thousand people unhoused and in need of shelter, with nothing but the clothes on their backs and nothing to return to. Understand that the island, stolen land, is littered with hotels full of air conditioned of rooms with beds and showers and toilets, each fully equipped to host hundreds of families for weeks, turning these people away because they’re booked up with tourists who refuse to leave.

And understand that these tourists were offered free transport to return home or be hosted on other islands. Free. Courtesy of local tax dollars. 4,000 wealthy tourists were offered free flights shelter on Oahu and begged to leave the island, BEFORE the survivors were given shelter.

And enough still insisted on remaining and carrying out their vacations that people are left without shelter and resources while they enjoy “their stay in paradise”.

In case this gains any traction, I NEED people to understand that this is not an invitation for mainlanders to get on a soapbox and start telling each other whether or not or how to visit Hawai'i. The tourism situation is complex and difficult and you don’t get it if you haven’t lived through it at minimum wage. You don’t fully understand the complexities and you will not. And you are liable to do more harm by trying to dictate rules and ethics of visiting the islands to each other.

If you want to help, listen to local people. Seek out and boost what they’re saying. Send each other local sources of information. Research from local sources. DO NOT take this crisis as an opportunity to insert your views and speak for us.

a little more information regarding the maui wildfires:

  • medical workers on the ground are describing finding hundreds of bodies. the current death toll in the media is, unfortunately, only a fraction of the reality
  • hospital workers are describing injuries and trauma as if survivors had come out of a warzone
  • thousands are still missing
  • an apartment complex for the elderly was lost. not everyone could get out. people were saying goodbye to loved ones over the phone
  • people who did get out of lahaina were leaving with ashes covering their faces and nothing but the clothes on their backs. people are losing everything.

hotels are still operating. hotels are still operating. they are not the ones offering shelters or housing or food. even bowling alleys are offering shelter, but hotels have the audacity to build on burial sites but not open their doors to local families who have lost everything.

donate to maui united way, the maui food bank, mutual aid, and maui humane society

Hey if you work for a major company that you fucking hate, but they also have a Diversity, Inclusion, Culture Department… check if they offer donation matching.

Your $10 donation can turn into $20

Your $50 donation can turn into $100

I completely forgot until an org put it at the bottom.

if u are in the seattle/everett/federal way area u can dm me if u have any physical items to donate. my halau is organizing and sending disaster relief items such as clothing, blankets, towels, hygiene products, menstrual products, infant care, kids toys, and more.

People will sympathize with former nazis and white supremacists and terfs before they sympathize with their victims. You weren’t indoctrinated into a cult because you were lonely after your parent died; you decided marginalized people needed to be killed en masse because you couldn’t make friends. BFFR.

You are not a victim for becoming a fucking nazi, nobody tricked you into believing trans women weren’t people! Be supercalifragilisticexpialidociously forreal!

I think Americans in general should maybe start taking xenophobia more seriously. Because with the. Everything going on in the world right now. It’s gotten really really bad. And while lefties might not be reactionary to the same extent as republicans it’s still very much prevalent. I went to dinner with my family recently and the stuff they said about my cousin’s family who emigrated from Russia made me feel like I was losing my mind. He’s 2 years old. How are you going to discriminate against a baby with a clear conscience. Then you read the news and it’s like “China is spying on you with TikTok and weather balloons” and you hear people on all angles of the political compass repeat it. Are you hearing yourself right now. Are you for real

Cannot believe I have to say this but I am Lakota. as in native american. As in almost everyone’s family came to the united states from another country at one point, except for the people who were already living here. Like my mom’s family. And I live here.

Immediately assuming I must be a white european because I disagree with widespread american xenophobia is prelly wild. Honestly. When I mentioned my family and America in the same post I thought it was clear that I live here.

“But you said you had family from Russia?”

Yes. People get married sometimes. My cousin married someone from Russia. They had a baby. He’s a good baby btw. Fantastic little dude. I hope he grows up in a better world than this one.

I can’t speak for people living in other countries because I don’t live there. I live here. I don’t think it’s my place to berate people from other countries because that’s kind of the problem. Maybe I should have started this post out like a presidential speech. My fellow Americans. Now more than ever.

Reading comprehension test:

  1. Where is OP from? What country?

2. What does “xenophobia” mean?

3. Is possible to care about other people? if yes, then:

3.1: even if they’re from another country?

3.2: even if they speak another language?

3.3: even if I don’t like their government?

just had the weirdest interaction. this off-leash Yorkshire Terrier wobbled up to sniff my ankle, and then its owner said “the vet wanted to euthanize her”

and I was like “……oh”

and she said “4 years ago. she had a stroke, but I went to church and prayed to the Virgin Mary, and now she can walk again. but sometimes she drops, which is why I have this stroller”

and I was like “oh, okay.” I didn’t know what to say after that, so I was just like “it’s a cool dog” and kept walking

To be clear since a few people aren’t getting it, this is an edit referencing an idiom. The idiom says that if you slowly increase the temperature you can boil (and kill) a frog without it noticing. The idea being it acclimates over time. An article about how your body can build up tolerance to heat listed under CLIMATE SOLUTIONS is ridiculous. This is part of an ongoing gaslighting campaign by media overall to make people think climate change (specifically global warming) is not a big deal. No amount of “getting used to it over time” will help disabled people on medications that lower heat tolerance. And if this continues people will die.

Just so you know… There is no “the queen”. Why?

There are so, so many queens.

They make up half of the human population.

We call them “women”.

And I am a loyal knight fighting for all of them. I slaughtered a dragon for women today, actually. Here’s a picture
